Alden Marin

Alden Marin was born and raised in Southern California. He earned his degree in American Studies and Creative Writing from Standford University, where he also studied poetry and French. He was greatly influenced by the nature that surrounded him and frequently surfed and hiked near Malibu. His extensive travel also fed his creative work: Marin has been to France, Switzerland, Greece, and India. His literary influences include Gary Snyder, Richard Brautigan, and Ezra Pound. He says he is drawn to artists who 'address the fragmentedness of modern existence' and admires the works of Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Paul Klee. His media is varied and includes acrylic paint, ink, crayon, and collage. He lives and works in Pacific Palisades, California.
